Two trainee positions available in a training course for graduates in technical and scientific disciplines under the program “Training of highly qualified researchers in the discovery, characterization and development of new antibiotics”, co-financed by the Italian Ministry of University and Research. This training program is part of a larger research project directed at finding new antibiotics from microbial sources. The selected candidates will be employed for 30 months at Naicons (Milan, Italy; www.naicons.com), where most of the training program will occur. [Part of the program will take place by collaborating institutions.]

Objectives of the training program: The trainees will be provided with high-level professional qualifications ranging from microbiology to natural product chemistry to antibiotic profiling. The trainees will also learn how to plan, manage and evaluate industrial research projects.

Eligibility criteria:  Master degree in chemical or biological sciences with a strong background in chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology and bioinformatics, and an interest in applied research. Previous research experience with antibiotics, actinomycetes and/or natural products will be a plus.
